Throughout life, we continuously generate new blood cells, epidermal cells, and digestive tract epithelium from stem cells.
Stem cells allow an organism to regrow certain organs or tissues that have been tost; examples include the regrowth of hair shafts from follicular stem cells in the hair bulge and the continual replacement of blood cells from the hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow.
The new cells do not come from stem cells, nor do they come from the dedifferentiation of the adult cells.
